The Journey Continued, Guided by Ryukyu Glass
The Origin of a Sensibility Refined at 10,000 Meters   ■ Time and Atmosphere, Cultivated in the Sky   The essence of Ryuka’s aesthetic was shaped through years spent in the sky, serving as a cabin attendant based in Okinawa, accompanying each guest’s precious moments. At 10,000 meters, watching ever-changing colors from the window. Within a limited space, learning how to create true comfort. True comfort is not created by excess, but through the quiet harmony of details.       ■ A Drop of Light That Guided Me   One day, a Ryukyu glass bracelet gifted by my mother. Its deep glow and soft fluctuations brought a moment of stillness to my busy days. It felt like a single drop of light— holding the breath of Okinawa, the warmth of the artisan, and layers of untold stories.       ■ From Okinawa to the World   Ryuka offers not simply objects, but experiences that allow one to reconnect with oneself.       ■ Bringing Okinawan Light into Your Life   May these pieces bring a quiet light into your life, enriching both space and spirit.

The Philosophy of Ryuka
The Philosophy of Trinity — The Cycle of Okinawa as seen by Ryuka — When gazing at the Okinawan sea, one realizes its blue is never the same. Shaped by light, wind, and waves, it is in constant transformation. The beauty of this island is never fixed. What changes. What remains. And the life that rises between them.   The Perspective of Trinity   Trinity is not a design concept. Through Sea, Flower, and Earth, it is a way of understanding circulation. Ryuka entrusts this cycle to glass.       Sea — That which transforms   The sea never stays the same. It reflects light, moves with the wind, and shifts endlessly.       Terra — That which supports   The earth does not speak. It quietly holds both creation and decay.   Flower — Life in the present moment   A flower’s beauty lies not only in full bloom, but in the moment it begins to open.       Trinity as circulation   Sea, Earth, and Flower are not separate themes. Together, they form a living cycle.   Beauty does not rush   True beauty emerges with time.

Why I Chose Niji Glass Studio
Drawn to the warmth and intention within a one-of-a-kind glass A presence that captured me in an instant The first time I encountered the works of Niji Glass Studio, I was left without words. Their colors reflected the nature of Okinawa—much like a bracelet once gifted to me by my mother. Each form was unique, carrying a quiet sense of life. Unlike perfectly uniform mass-produced pieces, these works held a distinct sense of grace and warmth. The experience of choosing one piece—just for myself—became a lasting memory. In that moment, I realized: this feeling is exactly what I wish to share through Ryuka.       A legacy of pride and quiet dedication   When I visited the studio, what moved me most was seeing the spirit and craft passed from father to son. Working with recycled glass—an unforgiving material— the artisans continue to create with unwavering belief: that its warmth cannot be replaced. What I witnessed was more than craftsmanship. It was a living practice—one that carries culture and pride into the future.       A shared origin: delivering a smile   “There is no greater reward than seeing a customer smile.” These words resonated deeply with me. Having spent years creating meaningful moments for each individual in the sky, I recognized the same origin in their philosophy. Maker, curator, and the one who receives— connected through a single moment of fulfillment. That is the vision Ryuka seeks to embody.       Carrying Okinawa’s light forward   The beauty within Niji, and the warmth of its people, left a lasting impression. Together, I hope to bring this beauty—and the stories behind it—into the world. When a piece selected by Ryuka reaches your hands, it carries the breath of the artisan, the light of Okinawa, and the quiet arrangement of a life enriched.

Seiichiro Inamine — Carrying Forward a Master’s Legacy
Seiichiro Inamine — The Essence of Ryukyu Glass   Where glass is given life again   In Okinawa, there is a place where glass—once discarded—receives a second life. At Niji Glass Studio, Seiichiro Inamine continues this process, carrying tradition while pursuing a form of expression that is entirely his own. His works go beyond craft. They embody a quiet intention—something that resonates deeply with those who hold them. Why do they feel so distinct? Why do they bring a sense of warmth the moment they are touched? The answer lies in his philosophy.     Craft shaped by a single moment   There was a time when his work was simply routine. That changed after an encounter with a customer. A woman, who had always chosen his father’s work, selected one of his pieces and said, “This is beautiful. I’m glad I chose it.” “That smile gave me strength. From that moment, I began putting my soul into each piece.” At the core is a simple belief: a love for people. His aim is not to create objects, but pieces that bring quiet comfort and a sense of connection in everyday life.     The value of what cannot be repeated   Among many glass studios in Okinawa, Niji stands apart. Rather than pursuing uniformity or mass production, each piece is formed freely, without molds. No two are ever the same. This is not inefficiency— it is intention. “Do not imitate. Ask whether your work carries meaning.” Through this approach, each creation holds its own identity, shaped through exploration rather than replication.     Art that lives with you   “I don’t want my work to remain as something only to be admired. I want it to be used, every day.” Inamine believes that Ryukyu glass has the power to bring happiness. His pieces are not separate from life— they exist within it. A presence you want to keep close. A warmth you return to, again and again. Each piece carries the intention of its maker, quietly transforming the everyday into something more meaningful.

宙吹きガラス工房 虹(Niji Glass Studio)
Niji Glass Studio — Glass That Breathes Life and Speaks Within the vibrant world of Ryukyu glass, there exists a studio that stands apart through its unwavering philosophy. Niji Glass Studio, based in Yomitan, Okinawa. Carrying forward the passion of master craftsman Seikichi Inamine, the second-generation artisan Seiichiro Inamine now quietly inherits and evolves that spirit. A studio deeply resonant with Ryuka’s vision of beauty— where a sincere and unwavering will flows through every creation.     Warmth Born from Recycled Glass, and the Beauty of Bubbles   The origin of Ryukyu glass lies in postwar scarcity, when discarded bottles were reborn as material. While many studios have shifted toward more manageable industrial glass, Niji remains devoted to the challenging use of recycled bottles. This material cools rapidly—within mere seconds— demanding extraordinary skill to shape life into it. Once considered imperfections, the air bubbles formed within the glass were reimagined by Seikichi Inamine: “If they cannot be removed, let them become beauty.” Thus, bubble glass was born— an expression now celebrated as art.     Tradition and Innovation — A Breath Within Each Piece   Every piece at Niji is formed through free-blowing, without molds. The artisan breathes into molten glass, shaping it through motion and instinct. Subtle variations in flame and air ensure that no two pieces are ever the same. “One could create identical forms using molds. But I choose not to. It is in difference that life and beauty reside.”   Glass That Speaks Without Words   A phrase left by Seikichi Inamine remains: “To give voice to glass that cannot speak, by breathing life into it.” Today, Seiichiro continues this dialogue with glass before a furnace exceeding 1000°C.       A Quiet Light of Okinawa   “Ryukyu glass has the power to bring happiness.” Each piece, born from this belief, carries the quiet yet profound life of Okinawa.
